THE 12 PERCENT AND GROWING COALITION

Today (Tuesday) from 10:30-12:30 on the steps of City Hall, 1 Centre Street …

The 12% and Growing Coalition, a coalition of over 45 Asian-led or-serving community-based organizations, will hold an Asian Pacific American City Advocacy Day to call for a stop to the City budget cuts and bring attention to the urgent need to invest in services and program that ensure economic vitality and protect the most vulnerable community members. The Asian Pacific American community demands that we receive our fair share of State and City budgets to ensure that our community’s needs are met.

City Advocacy Day will consist of legislative visits, a briefing with City Council Members and staff, and a press conference and rally.

Press Conference Speakers:

David Chen, Executive Director, Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC)

Kalaivani S. Duane, Policy Manager, Coalition for Asian American Children and Families (CACF)

SJ Jung, President, MinKwon Center for Community Action (moderator)

Stephanie Lau, Assistant Executive Director, Chinatown Manpower Project

Linda Lee, Associate Executive Director, The Korean Community Services of Metropolitan New York (KCS)

Ka Man Wong, client of Greater Chinatown Community Association (GCCA)

Staff member, Sakhi for South Asian Women

5 COMBINATIONS

The struggling economy has been challenging for Chinatown businesses.  There are however those few restaurants that have been jumping during the downturn.  5 Combinations has been bumping with business; despite their very uncreative name.  Locals pack in here for their inexpensive; cafeteria like restaurant. There really is a lot to choose from even if you are on a tight budget.

The location is also very convenient.  It’s one block from Canal Street on Centre.   Try it out.  You definitely can’t beat the price!
