Bicycle Silhouettes in Chinatown

unnamed-1 If you have been to Chinatown recently, you might haven noticed beautiful bicycle silhouettes pop up! However, it's not just in Chinatown.

84 year old Mexican artist, Gilberto Aceve Navarro, has placed 122 steel bicycle silhouettes in Manhattan and Brooklyn with the intentions to promote healthy living and art. Navarro sketches them before and are laser cut into 3/8 inch-thick steel plates. Each bicycle weighs 1,200 pounds!

1. Chinatown Ice Cream Factory - When I bring friends to Chinatown, I usually bring them straight to the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory. With flavors like ginger and almond cookie, there is always something for everyone. For big occasions like Mother's Day and Thanksgiving, you can even pre-order ice cream cakes with your three favorite flavors!

2. Elizabeth Center - With a cone or cup in hand, head around the corner to Elizabeth St. (which has now been named Private Danny Chen Way) to the famous Elizabeth Center. There are lots of gift shops with presents to buy for your friends. But go quickly - many of the stores are closing soon!

3. Mahayana Buddhist Temple - work your way to the beautiful and colorful Buddhist temple for a cultural experience. It's free admission, but you are more than welcome to leave a donation. There is a beautiful interior that is worth exploring!

4. Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) - Learn about Chinatown's history. Learn about Chinese history in New York City. This is a great time to go, especially because it's Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month! The general admission is only $10, but you can snag a deal on Thursdays with free admission through Target Thursdays.

5. Fruit & Vegetable Stands - Before getting back on the subway after your fun-filled day in Chinatown, stop by the fruit and vegetable stands on Mott Street. Walk past Hester St. and you will see store after store filled with fruit, vegetables, and more. It's the perfect and cost-effective way to finish your day in Chinatown and get dinner ready!

5 Ways to Stay Cool in This Summer Heat

Watermelon Juice 1. Turn the lights off! Use natural lighting at home during the day. Close the sheer curtains! It'll save money on your energy bill and help you stay cool at home.

2. Put on your best bathing suit and bring your kids/best friend/significant other to the local park. The sprinklers are on full force and you'll have a great time running through it like you were 5 years old again!

3. If you're on the go, keep a damp face towel inside a zip lock bag You won't believe how comfortable it will feel to dab your face and neck every hour or so!

4. Drink even more water or electrolytes! I made a watermelon, cucumber and lime juice to cool off after my hot yoga class today. If you're allergic, coconut water is a great alternative!

5. Stop by the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory! (OBVIOUSLY!) We have brand new summer flavors like wild berry and black raspberry sorbet.
