Old Shanghai Deluxe

The Old Shanghai Deluxe now occupies the space that used to be Mr. Tang’s. The food here is almost the same as the New Yeah Shanghai Deluxe which recently closed. Half the restaurant group stayed in the old 65 Bayard Street location under a new name and the other half went to start this venture.

I like this place because there is a lot of seating and has a prime location. The big glass windows let you look onto the busy street as you eat. The wait staff is also dressed up in traditional Chinese attire which is a nice touch.

New Yeah Shanghai Deluxe Closes

New Yeah Shanghai Deluxe has been located on 65 Bayard and has been my neighbor for a number of years. Sunday was their last day and they have closed their gates. Where the restaurant once stood is now another vacant Chinatown store front.

Shanghai Kitchen

This restaurant used to be Moonhouse. It got taken over by their chef and now has a new name.

The food is more or less the same since they have the same chef. Some people say that they can taste more Cantonese influence over their Shanghai menu after the transition of the restaurant. I think the changes are quite subtle.

The soup dumplings here still remain one of my favorites. I read Time Out NY about these foo fah new places with their dumplings but my #1 picks remain constant.

Joe’s Ginger

Joe’s Ginger is a big hit with the tourist and the non-Chinese crowd. It is a neighbor and a shoot off of the more well known Joe’s Shanghai.

New Green Bo Restaurant

I love dumplings, as you can see from this picture. The waitress behind looks so shocked how many dumplings my little body can pack down. I do manual labor, so I tell myself I can eat all the dumplings I want. (This logic of course gives me a belly ache every now and then.)
